In a live press briefing, La Biennale di Venezia announced that FALL OF THE IBIS KING has been selected as part of the 78th editions OrizzontiShort Film competition.
FALL OF THE IBIS KING is one of just twelve short films selected, and will receive a world-premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in September. The Orizzonti (Horizons) short film programme is renowned for showcasing bold, innovative storytelling and emerging talent from across the globe.

FALL OF THE IBIS KING was directed by Mikai Geronimo & Josh O'Caoimh at The National Film School at IADT. The film follows the antagonist of a strange opera, who becomes increasingly unsettled, following the unlikely return of the former lead actor.
“In making this film our intention was to explore the intimate breakdown of a relationship between three characters in an overtly fantastical manner. As the opera progresses, the absurd events on stage become less and less abstract.”
Now in its 78th edition, the Venice International Film Festival is the oldest in the world and one of the prestigious “Big Three” alongside Cannes and Berlin.
This year’s lineup includes major premieres like Dune, Spencer, The Power of the Dog, and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, with appearances from stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Kristen Stewart, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Director Bong Joon Ho (Parasite, Memories of Murder) will serve as President of the Jury.
